URINARY  TRACT REPAIRER

small caltrops-சிறு நெரிஞ்சில்
It is well known diuretic plant drug useful in urolithiasis, dysurea, impotence and kidney dysfunction.

The Tribulus Terrestris plant has a long history of uses.
People from around the world have used the Tribulus Terrestris plant to promote overall health, support healthy libido function already in normal range and increase muscle tone.*

Because of the plants reputed benefits, athletes have used Tribulus Terrestris extract dietary supplements to boost energy levels, to promote healthy hormone function, to enhance muscle tone and to support athletic training.* Although it's unclear how Tribulus Terrestris extract exerts its effects, scientific research has suggested several possible mechanisms of action.

Tribulus Terrestris contains steroidal saponins, alkaloids, and flavonoids, and its proto dioxins content is believed to be responsible for its effects on hormone, libido and body composition.*

Clinical research suggests that Tribulus Terrestris may support healthy libido function in humans, and that it may also support healthy blood pressure and healthy cholesterol profiles already in normal range.

Tribulus Terrestris       Latin  Name: Tribulus terrestris     English Name: Small Caltrops   Sanskrit / Indian Name: Gokshura Tribulus  terrestris is a  prostrate annual herb. Common names                              ஸ்வர்ணபட்டி

Yellow bells, ginger-thomas, tecoma, trumpet flower, trumpetbush, yellow elder, yellow trumpet bush.

Yellow Tecoma is a genus of 14 species of shrubs or small trees in the trumpet vine family, Bignoniaceae. Twelve species are from the Americas, while the other two species are African. The American species range from the extreme southern United Statesthrough Central America and the Antilles south through Andean South America to northern Argentina. The generic name is derived from the Nahuatl word tecomaxochitl, which was applied by the indigenous peoples of Mexico to plants with tubular flowers. trumpet flower, yellow trumpet flowers, yellow trumpetbush, yellowbells, yellow-elder

A large shrub or small, much-branched, tree usually growing 1.5 to 5 m tall, but occasionally reaching 10 m in height.
The younger stems are smooth, hairless (glabrous) and greenish in colour. They are slightly four-angled in cross-section (quadrangular) and turn pale brown or reddish-brown in colour as they age. The bark on the main stem is light brown to pale grey in colour, furrowed, and relatively rough in texture.
The leaves (10-25 cm long) are arranged in pairs (oppositely arranged) and are borne on slender stalks (petioles) 1-9 cm long. They are compound (pinnate) with 3-13 leaflets, but usually have 3-7 leaflets. The leaflets are narrowly egg-shaped in outline with broad end at base (ovate-lanceolate) or elongated in shape (25-100 mm long and 8-30 mm wide) and have a pointed tip (acuminate apex). Their margins are irregularly and sharply toothed (serrated) and they are mostly hairless (glabrous), though a few hairs may be present on their undersides near the midrib.
Yellow bells | Tecoma stansThe showy flowers are borne in several-flowered clusters (5-15 cm long) that are first produced at the ends of the branches (interminal clusters), and then later in the leaf forks (axils) near the tips of the branches (in axillary clusters). These flowers are bright yellow in colour, tubular in shape, and borne on short stalks (pedicels) that are somewhat curved or twisted. The flower tube (corolla tube) is 30-50 mm long and has five rounded lobes that are 8-30 mm long. There are several faint reddish lines in the throat of the flower, which is slightly ridged and hairy. Flowering may occur throughout the year.
The fruit are large, elongated (linear), and somewhat flattened (compressedcapsules (10-30 cm long and 5-20 mm wide). These fruit turn from green to brown in colour as they mature and finally split open to release numerous papery seeds.

The seeds are very flat, oblong in shape (7-8 mm long and about 4 mm wide), and have a transparent wing at each end (the size of entire seed including the wings is about 20 x 6 mm).

www.malaysianherbals.com (99) Horny Goat Weed

Horny Goat Weed    Epimedium

http://www.sidhhaherbs.blogspot.com

Horny Goat Weed is an herb –
it is a plant that is indigenous
 to higher altitude locations
 around China. It has been
 around mankind for thousands
of years, and we still do not
 know all the benefits provided
by this gift given to us. Horny Goat Weed is known
by its scientific name – Epimedium

The plant contains icariin, which is a PDE5 inhibitor like
sildenafil, the active ingredient of Viagra. It is therefore used as anaphrodisiac and a treatment for erectile dysfunction.

Horny Goat Weed may offer Viagra alternative

LONDON –
 A Chinese
herbal remedy
called
horny goat
weed is a
 promising
alternative
 to Viagra for impotent
men, Italian researchers said.
The herb has long held
a reputation as a natural aphrodisiac. The lab
experiments, which did not look at whether
the plant actually increases desire, could
lead to new drugs to help men get erections,
said Mario Dell’Agli, a researcher at the
University of Milan, who led the study.
“This could be the natural Viagra,” he
 said in a telephone interview.
“The novelty is that we have synthesised
a new molecule that one day may be
 able to replace Viagra.”
Erectile dysfunction is a common condition
worldwide, and drugs like Pfizer Inc’s
Viagra, Eli Lilly and Co’s Cialis or tadalafil,
and Bayer AG’s Levitra or vardenafil,
work by increasing blood flow to the
 genitals. But the medicines, which
 inhibit an enzyme called phosphodiesterase
type 5 that restricts blood flow around
the body, including to the penis, can have
side effects ranging from headaches,
upset stomach and visual problems
including blindness.The Italian team
 looked for alternatives by studying
a number of plants reputed to boost
sexual performance.After homing in
on horny goat weed, the researchers
modified a compound in the plant
called icariin and
found it blocked the erection-inhibiting
enzyme as well as Viagra did.Because
the compound targets the enzyme more
precisely, it may have fewer side effects
than Viagra, known generically as sildenafil,
 Dell’Agli said.Further tests in animals
and humans are needed but the extract
from the herb represents a potential
 new erectile dysfunction treatment with
fewer side effects, Dell ’Agli said.“The
compound icariin is present in the
horny goat weed in large amounts and its activity against (the enzyme)
is lower  compared to Viagra,”
he said. “But the new molecule we synthesised from icariin is as
 good as Viagra
against (the enzyme).
